Employee Classifications

Employee Classifications

Your employment classification determines your scheduling expectations, benefits eligibility, and legal protections. This page explains each classification and what it means for you.

Full-Time Employees

A full-time employee is regularly scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week.

What this means for you:

  • You are a non-exempt, hourly employee entitled to overtime pay, meal and rest breaks, and all other protections under California wage and hour law - see Wage and Hour Compliance
  • You receive 40 hours of paid sick leave frontloaded on January 1 each year - see Benefits and Leave
  • You are eligible for all state-mandated benefits: workers' compensation, State Disability Insurance (SDI), Paid Family Leave (PFL), and unemployment insurance
  • You are expected to maintain a consistent schedule and be available for your regularly assigned shifts

Part-Time Employees

A part-time employee is regularly scheduled to work fewer than 30 hours per week.

What this means for you:

  • You are a non-exempt, hourly employee with the same wage and hour protections as full-time employees - overtime, meal breaks, rest breaks, and minimum wage all apply equally
  • You receive 40 hours of paid sick leave frontloaded on January 1 each year, the same as full-time employees
  • You are eligible for workers' compensation, SDI, PFL, and unemployment insurance
  • Your schedule may vary from week to week based on salon needs and your stated availability

There is no minimum hour guarantee for part-time employees. However, if you report to work as scheduled and are sent home early, reporting time pay applies - see Wage and Hour Compliance.

At-Will Employment

All employees - full-time and part-time - are employed at will. This means:

  • Either you or the salon may end the employment relationship at any time, for any lawful reason, with or without notice
  • No policy in this handbook creates a contract of employment or guarantees continued employment
  • At-will status can only be changed by a written agreement signed by the salon owner

Changing Your Classification

Classification changes (e.g., moving from part-time to full-time or vice versa) may occur based on business needs or at your request, subject to management approval.

  • If your classification changes, you will receive written notice of the change and any impact on your scheduling or benefits
  • A change in classification does not reset your hire date or affect previously accrued rights

Reasonable Accommodations

Amenities Spa will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified individuals with disabilities, and for sincerely held religious beliefs, practices, and observances, unless doing so would impose an undue hardship on the Company. If you need an accommodation, contact management to initiate an interactive process to identify effective accommodations.
