Exit Interviews and Offboarding
What to Expect When Leaving
If you are leaving the company - whether you resigned or were let go - here is what the offboarding process looks like.
Exit Interview
- You may be asked to participate in an exit interview during your last week. This is voluntary - you cannot be required to participate as a condition of receiving your final paycheck.
- The interview is a chance to share honest feedback about your experience. Your responses will be kept confidential to the extent possible.
- If you prefer, you may complete a written survey instead.
Final Pay
California law has strict deadlines for issuing final paychecks.
If You Resign
- With at least 72 hours' notice: Final pay is due on your last day of work.
- With less than 72 hours' notice: Final pay is due within 72 hours of your resignation.
If You Are Terminated
- Final pay is due immediately at the time of termination, before you leave the premises.
What's Included in Your Final Paycheck
- All earned but unpaid wages through your last day worked
- Any accrued, unused sick leave balances will be noted - California paid sick leave is not required to be paid out at separation, but your balance will be documented
- Any earned commission or bonus amounts that are calculable
- Reimbursement for any outstanding approved business expenses
Your final paycheck must be handed to you directly when possible. It will not be held pending the return of company property.
Items to Return
Before or on your last day, please return all company property:
- Keys and access devices - salon keys, storage room keys, lockbox or safe combinations
- Uniforms and branded apparel - smocks, shirts, or any salon-issued clothing
- Equipment and tools - any tools, devices, or supplies loaned by the salon
- Client-related materials - appointment books, printed client records, intake forms, before-and-after photos
- Digital access materials - any written passwords, access codes, or login credentials
- Company credit or debit cards
- Name badges or identification
Confidentiality Reminders
All client information is confidential, both during employment and after separation.
What Is Confidential
- Client names, contact information, addresses, and appointment history
- Client service records, notes, formulas, and preferences
- Before-and-after photos taken at the salon
- Client health or allergy information
- Any information about client spending, frequency of visits, or loyalty program data
Your Obligations After Leaving
- You may not take, copy, photograph, or retain any client records or contact information in any form - printed, digital, or handwritten.
- Client lists and records are the property of the salon, not the individual stylist or technician.
- Soliciting the salon's clients using information obtained during employment may expose you to legal liability.
- If you signed a confidentiality or non-solicitation agreement, its terms remain in effect after your departure.
If you have questions about the offboarding process, your final pay, or any of the items listed above, speak with the salon owner or manager.
